Why do we get easily addicted to social medias? Do you ever spend a day, or even half a day without opening one of your social media accounts? Asking myself this question makes me realize how dependent I am on social media for entertainments, social connection and information.

Why do we get hooked on Social Media?

Entertainment activities are one way for humans to relax and escape reality. It can come in different kinds, such as videos, memes, music, online games, and many more. And one thing that they have in common is that we can get it all from social media. We could watch viral videos through Facebook or Instagram, listen to music through Youtube, and connect to other users in real-time games!

Social Connection

Social Media allows us to interact with each other using applications such as WhatsApp and Line. Also we could send pictures, videos, audios and even our location! Through these easily downloaded applications, we could connect to our friends, families, and colleagues whether their 10 or 1000 miles apart. And for us teenagers, we love gossiping through chats!

And of course we cannot forget how people these days love to take of themselves and foods for the sake of social media attention.

Not only for gossips, but we also often use social media to search for information. As mentioned on my previous blog “Does Social Media Actually Help Business?“, information of a certain products or services can be easily obtained if they are available on the businesses’ social media accounts. Customers are also depending on online reviews about products or services such as a restaurant, to help them make a choice of which place to eat for dinner.

Also, the fastest and most efficient way to get to the latest news is through social media, even before the newspaper arrives tomorrow morning!
